Sneh Rana: Second Indian To Claim Eight Wickets

On June 30, Sneha Rana created history as she became the second Indian to pick up eight wickets in an innings on day three of the Women's Test series at Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. She levelled the feat achieved by Neetu David who first achieved it during a Test against England Women in Jamshedpur in 1995. The 30-year-old Dehradun-born player finished with figures of 8/77 in 25.3 overs against South Africa.

India Scores Highest Team Total In Women's Test Cricket

On day three of the Test match against South Africa, the Indian Women's Cricket Team set the world record for the highest team total as they scored 603 runs for 6, surpassing the previous record of 575/9 set by Australia earlier in 2024. This was achieved by the remarkable opening partnership of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana who scored 292 runs.

Shafali Verma: Fastest Double Century In Women's Test Cricket

Shafali Verma singlehandedly achieved 205 runs off 194 balls against South Africa on June 29, gaining her the title of the world's fastest player to score a double century in a women's test match. Before the 20-year-old's feat, the record was held by Australian cricketer Annabel Sutherland, who recorded a double ton off 248 balls against the same side earlier in 2024.

Team India Becomes Highest Scorer In World, Surpassing Men's Record

The Indian Women's Cricket Team scored an outstanding 525 runs for 4 on day one of the Test match against South Africa on June 28 in Chennai, shattering a 22-year-old record for the highest score in a single day in men's and women's cricket history. The record was previously held by the Sri Lankan Men's Team who scored 509 for the loss of nine wickets in the Colombo Test against Bangladesh in 2002. 

In women's cricket, this was also the first time a team surpassed the 500 mark in a Test match. The highest score record by a women's squad was held by England, who scored 475 in 1935 against New Zealand in Christchurch.

India & South Africa Record Most Centuries In Women's ODI

During an ODI match on June 19, India and South Africa secured a total of four centuries, making history with the most tons in women's cricket. Smriti Mandhana scored 136 runs while Harmanpreet Kaur delivered 103 runs. Meanwhile, Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp from the South African side gave a tough competition, smashing centuries with 135 and 114 runs respectively.

In 2018, during an England v/s South Africa game in Hove, Tammy Beaumont, Sarah Taylor and Lizelle Lee created history by scoring centuries. Men's ODI has seen four centuries during three ODIs. Moreover, India smashed eight sixes, making history with the highest number of sixes by the team in an ODI.

Smriti Mandhana Breaks Several Records In ODI

Smriti Mandhana has achieved multiple historic milestones recently, etching her name as a key figure in Indian sports. During the recent ODI series against South Africa, the vice-captain of the Indian Women's Cricket Team surpassed the 7,000-run mark in international cricket, only the second Indian woman after Mithali Raj to do so. She also broke the record for the most runs scored by a batter in a three-match bilateral women's ODI series.

She also became the pioneering woman cricketer to score consecutive ODI centuries. Throughout her career, Mandhana has scored seven ODI centuries, placing her 10th on the all-time list for most centuries scored in the 50-over game. Former Australia captain Meg Lanning continues to lead the list with 15 tons. Mandhana secured a well-deserved title of Player of The Series.
