Lovlina Borgohain Joins Assam Police: Lovlina Borgohain, who won a bronze medal for India at the Tokyo Olympics, has been appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police in Assam. The appointment letter was handed over to the pugilist by the Chief Minister of Assam Himanata Biswa Sarma during a ceremony at Janata Bhawan in Dispur on January 12.
Borgohain became the third Indian boxer after Mary Kom and Vijendra Singh to win a Bronze medal at the 2020 Olympics event which was held last year in Tokyo. The Chief Minister's Office Assam in a statement to ANI had said, "Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will hand over the appointment letter to Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist boxer Lovlina Borgohain in the rank of DSP, Assam Police, tomorrow."
Senior DGP L&O GP Singh tweeted, "@assampolice we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Lovlina Borgohain on her appointment as Deputy Superintendent of Police. @LovlinaBorgohain your presence will surely accomplish our relentless endeavour to promote Assam Police as a friend to Rise." This tweet was reshared by the Assam Police on their Twitter feed.

The Assam Police had officially welcomed Borgohain yesterday by posting a picture of her with a medal hanging from her neck and graphics stating, "Welcome Aboard, Lovlina Borgohain." They tweeted this along with the caption, "Welcome Aboard! Heartiest Congratulations to @LovlinaBorgohain on being appointed as a Dy.SP in Assam Police. Your presence will surely help us in our mission towards friendly policing in the state."
The Arjuna Awardee for the year 2020 has been getting congratulatory messages online for her appointment. Dr LR Bishnoi IPS tweeted, "A great day in office as an Olympian boxer & daughter of Assam @LovlinaBorgohai visited my office! She shared the old & zingy memories of her gutsy struggle," Borgohain thanked him and said, "Thank you @Irbishnoiassam sir it was wonderful meeting you."
Last year, Borgohain was facilitated by Assam CM after her bronze medal win at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, and it was there that he had asked her to join the state police force as DSP.
