Coco Gauff In Australian Open Round Two: United States tennis star Coco Gauff moved into round two at the Australian Open on Tuesday. Gauff defeated Switzerland's Jil Teichmann 6-3, 6-2. The 16-year-old prodigy is the youngest player at the tournament. In the next round she'll be facing Number five seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine.

Last year, Gauff responded to a TikTok user who said that she wouldn’t be able to compete or beat a male tennis player because she’s a girl. She said that playing better sports is not about gender but solely about the skills, further adding, “If you’re a real athlete, then you understand this.”

The world number 53 is the youngest player in the Open era to advance through qualifying to reach Wimbledon’s main draw. Coco Gauff is also the 12th youngest overall to play at the Wimbledon main draw.

Gauff caused a massive upset in Australian Open 2020, when she defeated Japan's Naomi Osaka. At a recent press conference, Osaka said that her loss to Gauff had drastically affected her confidence and forced her to have a reassess her career. "Honestly, I kinda have this whole ‘I need to do better, I need to sort of solidify my place and be consistent.’ And like somehow make other players respect me in that way. I’ve had it for that entire year, that whole 2019. And I think that also put a lot of pressure on me because I just felt like it was me against the world," said Osaka.
