Ashleigh Barty, the Australian tennis player, and former cricketer won the Australian Open after beating Danielle Collins from the United States of America 6-3, 7-6(2) in the finals on January 29, 2022. This also ends Australia's wait for the home win at the championship trophy.
The Australian Open is the first of the four Grand Slam tournaments held each year in Melbourne Park in Melbourne over the last fortnight of January.
Ash Barty Wins Australian Open 2022
Chris O'Neil was the last woman in the history of Australia to have won the singles title at the 1978 Australian Open. The wait for the Sunburnt country has finally ended with Barty winning the Australian Open in 2022.
After the win, the Grand Slam champion Barty exclaimed through her statement when she said- "This is a dream come true for me and I am proud to be an Aussie"

She also showed her gratitude to the audience present there and termed their presence as "exceptional" and expressed her happiness of sharing it with so many people.
As per the ranking by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), she is ranked in the number 1 position in the world in the singles category. She won her maiden Grand Slam title came after defeating Marketa Vondrousova in the French Open of 2019.
In 2018, she became the Grand Slam doubles champion, after winning the US Open with CoCo Vandeweghe. Thereafter she has also won Wimbledon 2021 in the women's single category after defeating Karolína Plíšková, the Czech tennis player.
The winner of 11 Grand Slam singles titles and Australian tennis legend from Queensland Rod Laver congratulated Barty on her spectacular win through his social media profile. He wrote- "A Grand Slam champion on three different surfaces, you are a complete player @AshBarty and I am so happy for you tonight. There’s nothing like winning at home, congratulations #AO2022 champion, it is wonderful to be here for this moment and to celebrate with Australia"
