Twin Sisters Arya And Ansa Chisti Win Gold And Silver In Wushu Championship

The twin sisters Arya and Ansa Chisti competed against each other in the finals for their category. Arya won the gold medal and Ansa won the silver medal.

Twin Sisters Win Medals
Arya and Ansa Chisti, twin sisters from Jammu and Kashmir competed against each other in the International Wushu Championship and won the gold and silver medal respectively for the women’s 56 kg category.

The International Wushu Championship was held in Georgia from August 2 to August 7. The twin sisters Arya and Ansa Chisti competed against each other in the finals for their category. Arya won the gold medal and Ansa won the silver medal.

The Chisti sisters were selected for the International Wushu Championship event by the Sports Authority of India (SAI). The duo was selected during a trial program held by the National Central of Excellence (NCOE) at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Athletes from various states in India participated and the twin sisters were among those selected.

Hailing from Tawheedabad Bemina in Srinagar, the twin sisters are students at Government Girls Higher Secondary Amira Kada. They have collectively won 14 medals in various national championships.

Twin Sisters Win Medals In International Competition

Gold medalist Arya Chisti spoke with ANI, “Wushu is a combination of kick, punch and throw. Asif sir trained us and then we started getting medals in nationals every year. We were selected for SAI where trials for this championship were held.” She added that she defeated three opponents before battling her sister in the final.

Arya mentioned how there were several children who were interested in sports but were unable to pursue their interests because their parents did not allow it. She said, “Our message to parents will be to allow and support your children in whatever field they are interested in.”

Ansa Chisti said, “I and my sister did not fight in finals as sisters but as competitors. This experience was really nice for us.”

The athletes expressed their gratitude toward their coach, the National Institute of Sports (NIS) qualified Wushu Coach Asif Hussain.

Coach Hussain said the twins began their training at 4:30 am and then they had another training session in the evening. He added that their parent’s support allowed the twins to pursue the sport and made it possible for them to win national and international competitions.
