Darshana Vikram Jardosh is a Lok Sabha MP from Surat, Gujarat. She is a member of the Bharatiya Janta Party(BJP) and is serving as an MP for a 3rd term. Serving nearly 4 decades in politics, she is a successful politician. A businesswoman by profession, she completed B.Com. in Economics and Banking from K.P. College of Commerce, Surat.

A businesswoman setting new records

Darshana, aged 60, started her political career in the year 1988, during which she was appointed as Vice President of the BJP Ward 8 Committee. Eleven years later in the year 1999, she became President of BJP Mahila Morcha, Surat. Darshana Jardosh was elected for 15th Lok Sabha in the year 2009. It marked the beginning of her journey as a Lok Sabha MP.

In 2014, Darshana Jardosh got re-elected as a Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha from Surat. It was during this election that she created history by winning with an astonishing margin of 5,33,190 votes. This was the highest lead by any woman MP in Indian electoral history, after Indira Gandhi. She set a record for the 2014 elections by winning with a 76.6% vote share. During her 2nd term serving as a Lok Sabha MP from Surat, she became a member of several committees which also includes the Committee on Empowerment of Women.

In May 2019, Darshana Jardosh got re-elected to the 17th Lok Sabha for the 3rd term.

Darshana Vikram Jardosh has been a Member of the Gujarat Social Welfare Board and has also been a Corporator of Surat Municipal Corporation. She is the director of ‘Sanskruti’; an Art and Culture Organization.

Other Women in the Cabinet Reshuffle

After starting his second term in May 2019, this is the first cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The aim was to introduce and involve more representation from marginal communities, mainly Scheduled Caste Members and Women. Anupriya Singh Patel, Meenakshi Lekhi, Annpurna Devi are also among the new women ministers in the Union Cabinet Expansion.
