Bhawna Verma's Instagram bio reads, "This shall too pass," accurately describing her journey. Verma's life completely changed overnight after a nearly fatal road accident that landed her in the intensive care unit. She was discharged a few days later, but that was not the end of her struggle. The injuries were so grave she was confined to the bed for months. Trying to walk felt like crossing a huge hurdle and she required support to move around. However, she was eager to get back on her feet and opted for physiotherapy. A little after a fortnight of physical therapy, Verma was able to walk again, surprising even her doctors.

Speaking to SheThePeople, Bhawna Verma shared her story of transforming her life from a dangerous injury to becoming a yoga instructor, dancer, and content creator.

Bhawna Verma's Story

“My life took an unexpected turn during the New Year celebration, and what should have been a joyous occasion turned into my worst nightmare. Returning from a party, our car lost balance on a speed breaker, and we met with a tragic accident. Hanging between life and death with very few chances of survival, I was left on a ventilator. For four long days, I fought for my life, and after a week in the ICU, I was finally out of danger.

However, the road to recovery was far from easy. After being unconsciously bedridden for three months, the doctors said that I wouldn’t be able to walk or talk for at least a year. But I didn’t give up. I didn’t want to be dependent on anyone, and that is why I decided that I would take physiotherapy. And much to everyone’s surprise, including my doctors, I regained my ability to walk in just 17 days.

My sisters were my pillars of strength the entire time. They helped me practise my walk. After getting proper consultations from my doctors, I started going to the gym as well. I was determined to work on my body and couldn’t let an accident define my life. I started to run, jump, and do everything any normal individual could do.

As lockdown happened, I took it as an opportunity for self-improvement. I redirected my focus towards fitness and decided to take up yoga. My transformative journey was both physical and mental. Discovering the impact of yoga on my overall well-being, I found solace and strength in the discipline of yoga.

Today, against all odds, I proudly stand as a yoga instructor. Life, once hanging in the balance, has turned into a true blessing. This journey has not only reshaped my physical capabilities but has also given me a new appreciation for resilience. Through challenges, I have discovered my inner strength, and now, as a yoga instructor, I want to inspire others to find their own path to healing and well-being.”
