Beyond The Grand: Why Low-Key Celebrations Must Be Normalised?

Recently, I came across a post by Richa Chaddha in which she talked about her low-key birthday celebration. The celebration was mainly marked by a gathering of close friends at home who savoured chaat and enjoyed foot massage.

Christmas and the New Year are knocking at our doors. How many of you have lavish plans for them? I am sure many of them, because these are the times of the year when we indulge in celebration for an end and a new beginning. We all want to bid a good farewell to one year and welcome another with enthusiasm. But would you judge if I said I don't have any lavish plans? That I never celebrated Christmas or New Years with late-night celebrations?

The essence of celebration lies in personal choice and genuine happiness, rather than conforming to societal expectations.

Richa Chaddha's Refreshing Approach

Recently, I came across a post by Richa Chaddha in which she talked about her low-key birthday celebration. The celebration was mainly marked by a gathering of close friends at home who savoured chaat and enjoyed foot massages. Despite being a celebrity, Chaddha was more than satisfied with celebrating her birthday in a way that was different from the glamour we expect from the stars. It was indeed refreshing, as her personal choice normalises low-key parties. Have a look

The holiday season in India is known for its diverse and vibrant festivities. From Diwali to Holi, our multicultural society thrives on joyous occasions.  The multicultural population in our country mandates the prevalence of a number of occasions when we indulge in celebrations. But there should be no hard-and-fast rule about how we celebrate special days. It should be a personal choice that reflects happiness and not pressure of any kind. These celebrations must make everyone happy without worrying about what people will think.

Breaking Stereotypes around Low-Key Celebrations

Often, low-key celebrations are considered markers of low financial status which is a completely flawed idea and is debunked by Chaddha's celebration. Contrary to popular belief, such celebrations exude enthusiasm and genuine joy. They emphasize that happiness resides in the small, heartfelt moments rather than the grandeur of an opulent lifestyle. Chaddha's choice advocates for a minimalist approach to living, showing that it not only sustains happiness over time but also brings genuine smiles.

The definition of happiness varies from person to person, and judgmental attitudes only hinder the true essence of joy.

So let's stop judging and start living. Celebrations bring happiness, and just like diverse minds, the sources and definitions of happiness are also different for everyone.
