6 Shows On Cartoon Network That Will Remind You Of Your Childhood

Growing up in the 90s was a time filled with iconic cartoons that shaped our childhoods. The funky animation, the funny dialogues and the hilarious plots used to make us laugh till our tummies hurt.

#RIPCartoonNetwork had been trending recently on X (formerly known as Twitter) amid reports that the channel is shutting down. The trend started when an X account "Animation Workers Ignited" shared an animation claiming that "Cartoon Network is essentially dead." The post also suggested that other animation studios are facing similar challenges, particularly due to layoffs in the industry.

However, soon Cartoon Network issued a statement clarifying that rumours of the network or its studio shutting down are untrue. "Cartoon Network would like to clarify that there is no truth to the speculation that the network or the studio is shutting down. With several recently announced greenlights, we remain committed to continually investing in innovative content that entertains and inspires our viewers across the globe," the company stated.

Shutting down or not, Cartoon Network was our best friend during childhood. In the era of no smartphones or the internet, we clung to these animation channels to enjoy our leisure time. The funky animation, the funny dialogues and the hilarious plots used to make us laugh till our tummies hurt. No matter how lame those funny elements seem today, we cannot stop but think how can Cartoon Network ever shut down? It would be like an end of an era.

But hopefully, it will continue to show new animations. Even though we no longer watch Cartoon Network, we cannot forget its importance in our childhood.

I remember watching Dragon Tales early in the morning while getting ready for school. Or spending the weekend binge-watching every show. But those days have passed now. Everyone is busy in adulting. But our favourite cartoon characters haven't grown old.

So to take you down on a nostalgia trip, here are some cartoon shows that were our favourites:

Tom and Jerry

Tom and Jerry Movie, trailer

Of course, the credit for the best animation show on Cartoon Network goes to Tom and Jerry. The hilarious plots of the show, and the unsuccessful attempts of Tom to catch Jerry whose wit and cleverness always defeated Tom's tricks have made us laugh for years. You know the best part of the show? Despite being the rival enemies, Tom and Jerry were the only friends of each other. Even though they fought, there were situations when the duo came together to deal with the third person who tried to meddle in their dynamics.

The Powerpuff Girls

If women empowerment needs a definition, power puff girls are enough. Being much ahead of time, power puff girls instilled the idea of women empowerment in our childhood. We understood that women are no less than any other person. The moment girls with their different powers saved the world, we could not stop but say "You go, girl!" In fact. the show must be telecasted for children of today's era too so that women's empowerment builds the base of their upbringing

Baby Looney Toons

Another cute and funny show was Baby Looney Tunes. We got to see the child version of our favourite characters.  How can we forget Tweety? The most clever and wittiest of all grabbed our attention with her witty answers and questions.

Courage the Cowardly Dog

You can guess the plot with the title itself. A dog named Courage is described as cowardly. In the show, Courage is just the opposite of being a coward. He always comes to the rescue of his owners. His wit, knowledge of technology and problem-solving skills are just intriguing and amazing. Courage the Cowardly Dog has some of the scariest moments in any cartoon made for kids, with terrifying situations and dark humour. The show also received critical acclaim and even got an Academy Award nomination for one of its episodes.

Scooby-Doo, Where are you?

Talking about dogs, who can forget the legendary Sccoby-Doo? Scooby-Doo hired by a group of detectives to help them find clues is himself very timid and afraid. The mysterious plots of the show, the speculations and the unexpected truth just created suspense in us which ended with great shock. Sometimes Scooby-Doo used to be timid and too afraid to do things. And sometimes, it is Scooby-Doo that solves the mysteries. You can't deny that scooby-doo was our favourite character ever. The show gained so much popularity that it was turned into movies.

Dragon Tales

Last but not least, Dragon Tales was another favourite because of its mysterious and utopian world. The brother-sister duo had a magical power to go into the days of dragons. However, the dragons are not terrifying but very friendly and kind. This show made us believe in magic and how the world could be a better place despite the existence of dangerous animals like dragons.

Well, that's all I have in my bucket. Cartoon Network was our escape from homework and studies. We used to eagerly wait for the TV time to switch to our favourite cartoon shows. Now things are different. Children no longer watch cartoons on TV. They have smartphones which have more advanced features than Cartoon Network. But still, the comfort of sitting on the sofa or bed or whatever, with snacks and singing along with the title song of our favourite cartoon as it plays on the television is unmatchable.
