Agra Man Seeks Divorce Because Wife Is 'Too Political': The Downside Of Ego

In a bizarre case, a man is seeking divorce from his wife because she is gaining a lot of fame and name through her career in politics and social service. The couple belongs to Agra and is currently undergoing counselling sessions arranged by the police. 

As per the reports, the couple got married two years ago and have a child. The wife, originally from Thana, New Agra, loves a career in politics and social service. She has installed hoarding and posters across the city. As a part of her job, she meets strangers too quite often. 

However, the husband, originally from Sikandra, doesn't like his wife's career choice. He hates it when she meets strangers and becomes "too popular". 

To resolve their dispute, the police had to intervene with counselling sessions. Every Sunday, a family counselling centre is organised at the Agra Police Line. This case is being handled by counsellor Dr Amit Gaud who said that the husband has gone through three sessions already. But he is adamant about seeking a divorce. He said that until and unless his wife doesn't leave politics, he won't take her back. And the wife is firm about not leaving her career in politics.

Dates for more sessions have been fixed to save the family.  

Why do men dominate the matrimonial space?

This is just another example of how men try to dominate the matrimonial space. They want their wives to behave and act according to their husbands. Their purpose in life should be to make their husbands happy, leaving everything aside. When a woman gets married, it is assumed that she will always be less than her husband. She cannot earn more as it will make the husband look like a loser. She cannot have an opinion other than what the husband feeds her because it will show that she is more educated. She cannot make decisions in the house as it will show that the man doesn't control the wife or the house. 

This all comes down to the fragile male ego that cannot see a woman thriving. Men in our society are fed with silver spoons because they have the power to control everything. While women are made to pick up the trash because their duty is to clean the mess that men create. 

Women are humans too

But enough with these gender roles and power plays within marriage. Women are now ambitious and have dreams of being successful, socially and financially. They do not need a man's approval before choosing a career. Or, they are not bound to sacrifice their dreams just because their husbands dislike it. 

There are many things that women dislike about men too. But do they have the power to oppose? Do they get to say "I don't like what you do. So you should stop doing it" ever? No right? Rather, they are always taught to adjust and sacrifice to make a marriage work. 

Sure, there are things that both husband and wife need to change in order to make the marriage work. But why should the change always happen in the woman's life? Why don't men try and understand women and their choices? Why are they so blinded by male ego that they don't see women as normal humans who have needs and rights?

But now, the time is changing. So men need to make peace with the fact that women are not their puppets. Men cannot decide what a woman wants to do. A woman has a brain, talent, dreams and the right to make their own decisions. If men cannot accept this basic aspect of being human, then maybe they need to go back to school and learn what it means to be a human in this country.
