Zomato delivery man assault: A Bengaluru woman has accused a Zomato delivery executive of physical assault. The dispute allegedly took place over a delay in delivery. Zomato has issued a statement apologising for the same and has agreed to investigate the case.
Hitesha Chandranee, who is a content creator, posted videos on her social media showing blood on her nose. She alleged that it was caused by a delivery man. Zomato responded to the allegation and said that the local representative will be shortly in touch with Chandranee to help her with the police investigation.
Zomato responded, via written statement, to the incident and said, “We deeply regret the incident that happened between Hitesha Chandranee and the delivery partner in Bengaluru. We can assure you this is not the experience our delivery universe upholds. The case is currently under investigation by the police. We have extended our full support to help resolve this with our team on ground being on top of it.”
In the video, Chandranee was seen shaking while she said, "So guys my Zomato delivery order was late and I was talking to the customer care executive. And meanwhile the delivery person just did this. He hit me, left me bleeding here and ran off."
In another video, she gave details of the alleged assault and said, "I ordered food from Zomato as I was working since morning. I ordered food around 3:30 pm, which was supposed to get delivered by 4:30 pm, and I did not get the order on time, so I was constantly following up with the Zomato customer care that either give me a free delivery for the same or just cancel the order..."
She said that the Zomato delivery man finally showed up and "he was rude". Chandranee refused to open the door and told him through the gap that she is talking to customer care. " I told him i dont want the order since it was very late. But he refused to take the order and started screaming 'bloody I am your slave or what'.. I felt so threatened, I got scared and tried to push the door. But he was so huge, he pushed back the door, snatched the order back from me and punched me. Then he ran away."
Zomato tweeted about the incident and wrote, "We can't emphasise how sorry we are, rest assured we'll take necessary actions to prevent such incidents from happening in the future."
"We deeply regret this incident and apologise to Hitesha for this traumatic experience. We are in touch with her and are providing our complete support through the necessary medical care and investigation. Meanwhile, we have delisted the delivery partner from our platform," Zomato added. The delivery man has been arrested by the Electronic City police station in Bengaluru.
