Youth Arrested In Kolkata For Threatening Mohammed Shami's Estranged Wife Hasin Jahan

A 25-year-old youth has been arrested from Kolkata for allegedly threatening cricketer Mohammed Shami’s estranged wife Hasin Jahan. The accused man was demanding money and threatened her by saying that he would post her pictures and phone number on obscene websites if she didn't fulfill the demand. Acting on a complaint filed by Jahan, the man was arrested from the Canning Station Road area on Wednesday, reported HT. 

According to a police officer, “First it was Jahan’s former domestic help who started calling her, demanding money. Then it was a man, claiming to be the woman’s son,” He also said that, “He was demanding money and threatened that otherwise, he will post her personal photographs and mobile numbers on social media. The person also hurled abuses at her.”

Hasin Jahan appointed Shila Devraj as her house help for a few days. However, she had found Shila rude and always on the phone, so she discontinued her services after eight or nine days. Hasin told the Telegraph that “I had paid all her dues and then dismissed her. Soon after a man introducing himself as her son started calling me up saying I owed them money.” Initially, she tried to ignore the calls and blocked the number but when the accused kept bothering her she decided to register a complaint on November 22.

The accused have been charged with extortion, outrage of modesty of a woman through words and gestures, and criminal intimidation. The youth has been arrested while the police are on the lookout for the woman.
