Young Women On Why We Need A Women Writers' Fest

SheThePeople.TV and Vedica Scholars is organising the first-ever Women Writers' fest in Delhi on February 24 and 25.

We spoke to Vedica Scholars on their thoughts on being a woman in the workforce and why they think a festival dedicated especially to women is crucial.

Yes, initiatives such as these should be encouraged in the form of conclaves, conferences and chai pe charcha, said Ragini Bhowmick.

Creating women's empowerment:

Many of the scholars said that these initiatives will help empower women, and give them the strength and conviction to face challenges in the workplace and beyond.

It shows that the gender that is considered a minority is capable of demolishing the bindings of a society that doubts it 

Vedica Scholar Sonali Mishra said that community organisations should take up individual responsibilities such as discussing issues on women and women’s rights. Prapurna Sharma added that more initiatives like these are crucial, and should include women of diversified backgrounds and age groups.

Dialogues such as the Women Writer’s Fest will forward the cause, the scholars agreed.

Upma Tambulkar said that the fest is a platform that is one of its kind. It shows that the gender that is considered a minority is capable of demolishing the bindings of a society that doubts it.

Creating awareness:

Mansi said that the fest will help create awareness and encourage more women to remain in the workforce, as discussion on these issues will give women inspiration.

"I believe such fests can be organised on platforms where people have never ever addressed such issues. And continuously conducting such events might bring about the change that we are expecting," says Srilekhya Achanta.

The fest will help women be self-sufficient, most of the scholars seemed to echo. An initiative like this will remind women of their strengths, said Vedica Scholar Durga.

It will encourage more women to remain in the workforces, as discussion on these issues will give women inspiration
