Sutar's Gutsy Act
Snake rescuers are not just brave and compassionate individuals but also play vital roles as conservationists in public safety. They dedicate their lives to protecting snakes and educating people on the importance of snakes. Meet one such snake rescuer Shweta Sutar from Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
A video of Sutar's valiant act went viral on Instagram as she can be seen nonchalantly removing a long rat snake from a store with her bare hands without even using snake thongs and smiling as she puts the snake in a pipe covering it with her palm without wearing any protecting gloves.
The video went viral on Instagram with 2.6 million views and 28.7k likes after Sutar shared it on her profile @shweta_wildliferescuer. She has previously shared several videos showcasing her snake-rescue skills marvelling in saree, to removing the snake from a residential household in the village and dropping the snake to their natural habitat.
As Instagrammers were stunned by Sutar's gutsy stunt a user commented "The snake seems to be scared of you... what are you, a snake goddess?" Another user commented "Omg! How are you even handling that thing in your hand? My soul would have left my body. I wouldn't make it past just looking at the snake."
In the video, Sutar rescues a rat snake, a non-venomous snake often mistaken as a cobra for its length and scaled skin. However, Sutar on her Instagram handle can be seen rescuing many venomous snakes and even King Cobras just using snake thongs and a pipe without any safety precautions.
Sutar does not seem to be professionally trained but is a fearless young woman who does not nonchalantly rescue snakes and educates people in her village on the importance of snakes.
