Someone on a group chat told US-based Muslim teenager Lamyaa that her dad ‘would beat
"Baba, I want to tell you something. I was thinking. I want to take off my hijab,” said the 17-year-old. His response was heartwarming, and has gone viral after the teenager posted it on Twitter.
"Sweetheart that's not my decision to make, that's no man's decision to make, if it's what you feel like you want to do, go ahead, I'll support you, no matter what," he said.

Buzzfeed News had reported that Lamyaa had gotten trolled in a group chat for criticising President Trump’s views on Islam. When the group brought up Trump and the political climate, Lamyaa spoke up about being a Muslim woman living in America. So one of the participants told her to "stop defending Islam Bitch shut up you couldn’t take that scarf off or your dad would beat your ass”.
While she received a lot of support on twitter, a lot of users responded with anger as well. People said that just because she is not oppressed doesn't mean that countless others aren't. The teen eloquently replied that the point of the tweet wasn't to deny that many women are forced to wear the hijab.
