FIRST INFLUENTIAL WOMAN AT DARPA
Starting her career with Defence Development Lab and then moving on to DARPA (Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency), the agency that invented the internet, global positioning system and many more innovations that are well positioned in our world today, she served as the 19th Director. She was the first women to have been at such a high-profile role at DARPA. In 2012, Regina left her rank at DARPA to join the team at Google, where she headed the advanced technology and products team.
DRIVING INNOVATION @ FACEBOOK
Recently, on April 13th, she left Google to join their rival, Facebook. At Facebook she will be building a new team inside the company called “Building 8”. This team will be focussing on research and development and more innovative products to offer. “I am on the one hand, tremendously excited. Building 8 is an opportunity to do what I love most… tech infused with a sense of our humanity. Audacious science delivered at scale in products that feel almost magic. A little badass. And beautiful. There is much to build at Facebook… and the mission is human… compelling,” Dugan wrote in her blog on April 13th. Facebook has been working on some new technology to connect the world better. They are working on areas such as virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence and connectivity. Dugan will be overseeing all these operations at Facebook.
While there are tremendous developments in the field of science and technology in America, and around the world, it is often pleasant to hear that a women is taking charge on the innovation front at one of the world’s biggest companies. Here’s hoping that more women take inspiration from Dugan, and build themselves a career that helps the world innovate and grow, and leaves a legacy.
