WV Raman, the former coach of the women's cricket team, wrote a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, Sourav Ganguly, and National Cricket Academy (NCA) head Rahul Dravid.
In the letter, he alleged that the "smear campaign" against him was gaining traction and that it needs to be stopped immediately. Besides this, he raised his voice against the rejection of his candidature for the post of head coach. He said that it would be "extremely disconcerting" if his candidature was rejected due to reasons other than his "incompetency as coach."
WV Raman Calls calls out star culture in the cricket world
"What is important is that the smear campaign seems to have gained some unwarranted traction with some BCCI officials which needs to be halted permanently. I am prepared to give an explanation should you or any of the office bearers require it," wrote WV Raman.
He also stated that there is "no argument on a judgment call at all," if he were rejected due to his incompetency as a coach.
In the letter, WV Raman spoke about the "prima donna" culture in the cricket world, and said that it needs to stop. His letter comes after Ramesh Powar was appointed as the head coach for the women's cricket team, instead of him.
Sources close to Raman have reportedly spoken in his favour. They said that Raman always believed in putting the team above everything else. They also said that Raman has urged Sourav Ganguly to take a call on the matter.
Ramesh Powar appointed as head coach of Indian women's cricket team
Earlier, former cricketer Ramesh Powar was re-appointed as the head coach for the Indian women's cricket team. The news was confirmed by Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI.
The decision to appoint Ramesh as the coach instead of Raman was made by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which was headed by Madan Lal. According to a report, this decision has brought the CAC under BCCI scanner.
