Author And Art Curator Alka Raghuvanshi Passes Away

Alka Raghuvanshi was suffering from pneumonia for the last three months and was undergoing treatment in Delhi.

The Asianage writer, Dr Alka Raghuvanshi passed on Wednesday afternoon. Raghuvanshi was a distinguished artist, author and art curator. Her close friend Rajesh Tailang shared the news on social media.

Alka Raghuvanshi was suffering from pneumonia for the last three months and was undergoing treatment in Delhi. Pratibha Prahlad, prominent Bharatnatyam dancer and Alka's close friend shared the news that Alka Raghvanshi had tested negative for COVID-19.

She also shared a picture of herself with Alka Raghuvanshi and wrote, "My dearest friend #AlkaRaghuvanshi journalist, painter, saree designer, columnist, art critic & writer, art curator, author of many books just left for her heavenly abode. Heartbroken! Om Namo Narayanaaya."

She said in her statement, " All we know is that she tested negative for COVID-19, but had pneumonia and was undergoing treatment at her home." Prahlad further added that she and Raghuvanshi's friends thought that she was getting better.

Prahlad also mentioned saying that Raghuvanshi used to text her friends saying that she is feeling better and to not tell anyone. Raghuvanshi was reportedly optimistic about her recovery as Prahlad mentioned her stating that she would live to tell the story of her recovery from pneumonia.

Further, Prahlad shared that Raghuvanshi had written to her stating that she had gone through a harrowing time and the recovery is still very slow, Raghuvanshi would say to Prahlad, "I love you, looking forward to laughing and seeing you...Soon I hope."'

Alka Raghuvanshi's husband and journalist, Manoj Raghuvanshi shared a picture of their youth and write, "Sadly, Alka Raghuvanshi, my first wife, my best friend, left us today."

Dr Alka Raghuvanshi was India’s first trained art curator, having trained at the Goldsmiths College, London and the Museum of Modern Art in Oxford. She has curated and designed over 25 major exhibitions many of which travelled to other parts of the country and the world.
