Malik defeated Ukraine’s Solomiia Vynnyk by practical ascendancy of 57 kg. Within a span of a minute, the 20-year-old took down her opponent emerging with a lead of 2-0. The star wrestler then coerced the Ukrainian player which resulted in a win of 0-4.

The aggressive mannerism continued in the second half and closed off with a semi-final of 11-0. This marked Malik to be the first woman from India to reach the final level at the World Wrestling Championships.

In the past, all of India’s five medals under the women’s category at the World Wrestling Championships were bronze.

Before the semi-final round, Malik was observed to have easily won against Kazakhstan’s Nilufar Raimova and also emerged victorious against Mongolia’s Davaachimeg Erkhembayar with a 5-1 to advance to the semi-finals.

Earlier today, Sarita Mor reigned in the Asian Championship as she reached the semi-finals defeating Linda Morais, the wrestling champion from Canada who won the 2019 World Champion.

After a tough start, Sarita gave the nation a tactical win of 8-2 in the pre-quarterfinals of the 59 kg category.

After winning the pre-quarterfinals, Mor will face the European Champion, Bilyana Zhivkova Duodova from Bulgaria in the semifinals, for a place in the historic finals.

Her speedy take-down move coupled with excellent defence techniques favoured the player as she was ahead by 7-0 by the end of the first period.

Her success lied in her maintaining her lock positions which did not let Morais play.

In the quarterfinals, Sandra Paruszewski of Germany appeared to be a tougher bout. This resulted in both the players being restricted to a standing fight. This is believed to have taken a lot out of them. But eventually, Mor scored the point in a take-down move a little late in the match which sealed the result.
