Working Women Are More Desirable As Spouses: Matrimonial Site's Study

The latest research conducted by the matrimonial site Shaadi.com reveals that working women are more desirable as spouses.

Shaadi.com is one of the most popular matrimonial sites in India and has more than two decades of operation in the matchmaking industry. More than 50 million Indian users enjoy its services to date.

The latest research by Shaadi.com provides insight into the desirable qualities of a spouse. The research was inclusive of age, location, profession, and income. The study highlights the desirable traits an individual seeks in their spouses while contemplating matrimony.

The research is based on 2.5 million users who used the website for matchmaking from December 1, 2021, to December 31, 2022. Out of the 2.5 million users, 0.9 million were women and 1.6 million were men. The study only considered users that actively used the website services for one week before arriving at any conclusive result for the study.

Women in government jobs were seen to be given more preference in the study. The most eligible female for matrimony according to this study is a Law Enforcement Officer.

The study deems women earning 30 lakhs per annum as 17 percent more desirable. Women in the Aviation sector and Architecture ranked best on desirability.

According to this study, non-working women were 31 percent less desirable than working women. 

Commenting on this revelation, Adish Zaveri, AVP Marketing, People Interactive Pvt Ltd., said, "This study indicates that as a nation, while we're moving in the right direction for gender equality in marriages, we still have a long way to go in terms of truly balanced relationships. Who we find desirable is the first point of establishing what this equation would look like after the Shaadi and the insights we've uncovered in this study are an honest reflection of India's view on desirability in the context of finding a life partner. Aspects such as higher desirability for working women and specifically those with higher income, are early indicators that we are making important strides in bringing and retaining women in the workforce."
