Indian archer Deepika Kumari led the Indian women's recurve team to victory at the Guatemala World Cup. They won three gold medals and a bronze medal on Monday.
They have now been qualified for the Tokyo Olympics which will be held between June and August this year. The girls received praise. Archery Association of India (AAI) president, Arjun Munda, celebrated the efforts of the country's archers and noted, "These achievements of Indian archers have not only infused an energy and power into the Olympic archery camp but has also enlighten a fresh hope in other sports which are preparing for Tokyo."
The trio of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari managed to defeat their Mexican opponents which comprised of Ana Vazquez, Alejandra Valentina and Aida Roman.
He also added that the incredible performance of the Indian archers shows that "if you have iron-will, then nobody can stop you to demonstrate the best and touch the sky in these odd conditions and testing times too."
Besides this, Deepika Kumari has individually qualified for the Tokyo Olympics too. She got her third gold medal after defeating USA's Mackenzie Brown 6-5 in the final match. She has also won individual gold medals at the 2012 World Cup in China and at the 2018 edition in the USA.
Till now, Deepika Kumari has won 32 medals in the World Cup & World Cup Finals including eight gold, 16 silver and eight bronze.
Deepika Kumari's husband Atanu Das also clinches the gold medal
Deepika Kumari's husband Atanu Das too won a gold medal after defeating Spain's Daniel Castro 6-4 in the finals match. He also managed to defeat archers from Mexico (6-2) in the semifinal, Canada (6-4) in quarters, countrymate (Pravin Jhadav 6-4) in the pre-quarters and El Salvador (6-4) in the 1/16 qualification match.
