The Indian women's junior hockey team made history when they clinched the Asia Cup 2023 title with a 2-1 win against four-time champion South Korea. This marked the first time India won the Women's Junior Asia Cup.
The Women's Junior Asia Cup's final was held in Kakamigahara, Japan on Sunday, June 11.
Hockey India declared a cash prize of 2 lakh rupees for each player while the support staff will receive 1 lakh rupees each. The victory also secured the women's junior hockey team's spot in the Women's Junior World Cup 2023 in Chile.

Women's Junior Hockey Team Wins Asia Cup
While the opening quarter did not see either team scoring a goal, at the 22-minute mark, India took the lead after Annu scored a point from the penalty corner. Within three minutes of the first goal, the South Korean team evened the score.
At the 41-minute mark, India took the lead once again after Neelam scored another goal, and India managed to maintain its lead and won its maiden Asia Cup.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team for their historic win and praised them for their "immense perseverance, talent, and teamwork".
