This year's Republic Day parade was a grand and patriotic affair, with many women cadets marching proudly at Rajpath.
Here are some key highlights from the parade. The Indian airforce tableau was led by a woman. Flight Lieutenant Drisya Nath, of Palakkad in Kerala was one of four officers who led the Indian wait Force contingent at Rajpath. She is an engineering graduate who left her job at IBM to join the Air Force.

The Haryana tableau celebrated the Beti Bachao movement that is being spearheaded in the state. The tableau also celebrated the achievements of Sakshi Malik and Deepa Malik.

The National Cadet Core was a treat to watch. The women marched with energy and conviction.

Three women officers led the Indian Navy contingent as platoon commanders. Lieutenant Manisha Takshak, Lieutenant Commander Chetna Sonsale and Lieutenant Priyanka Chand participated in the naval contingent. It was their first time participating in the parade.

Captain Tamanna Basin and Captain Garima also were also present in the defence displays. The Ashok Chakra award was posthumously given to Havildar Hangpan Dada, whose wife received it on his behalf.

While last year the theme of the parade was Naari Shakti, this year's theme was focused around Make in India. However, it was heartening to see so many women proudly participate in the national parade, and we hope that more and more participate with each coming year!
