UP Women Flee With Lovers

Four women from Banki, Nagar Panchayat Belhara, Siddhaur and Zaidpur reportedly applied for PMAY. The scheme makes it mandatory for the female family head to be the co-owner or owner of the house and the instalments for construction are transferred to the account of female heads. As a result, these four beneficiaries received the first instalment of Rs. 50,000 to be used in the construction of the house. However, these women allegedly fled with their lovers as soon as they got the money. Their husbands were left baffled as they feared the warning from authorities for not starting construction and the notice to recover the money that they never received.

The issue came to notice when District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) came to know that the husbands of these four women have not yet started the construction even after receiving the monetary help. They issued a notice to begin construction but there was no response or action. On receiving warming from government officials, the husbands reached out to the authorities and described what happened. They asked the authorities not to credit the next instalment in the bank account of their wives so that they could not access it. The officials are trying to recover the money from the beneficiaries.
