The Department of Home Affairs announced the names of seven police officers who have been promoted to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) in Punjab. Two women IPS officers have gained the honourary role among the seven officers.
For the first time, two women IPS officers, Gurpreet Kaur Deo and Shashi Prabha Dwivedi have been promoted to Director General of Police (DGP) in the Punjab Police.
These promotions have now paved for the Punjab Police to become one of the most potent forces with respect to the number of officers serving in top positions. 13 officers are working in the state at the DGP rank currently.
Women DGP Punjab Police
Gurpreet Kaur Deo
Officer Gurpreet Kaur Deo is an IPS officer belonging to the 1993 batch. She is the seniormost officer among the batch which has been promoted lately, according to reports. Also the first woman IPS officer to be part of the Punjab Police, officer Deo was earlier in charge of responsibilities covering women's affairs, and community affairs division holding the position of the additional director general of police (ADGP).
In response to her promotion, she expressed that she was delighted to be given the opportunity to serve as an internal part of the leadership in Punjab as DGP.
Shashi Prabha Dwivedi
Officer Shashi Prabha Dwivedi belongs to the IPS batch of 1993. In 2021, she was posted as the ADGP in Lokpal Punjab. Her promotion to DGP in Punjab Police adds to her achievements in the years of service to the nation. In August 2022, Officer Dwivedi took the salute and inspected the passing out parade of the Punjab Police.
As an ADGP, she held additional charge of the Indian Reserve Battalion as well.
Showering praise on all the jawans, she advised them to perform their duties with honesty and fearlessness and respect the law at all costs. Especially pointing out the drug usage in the state of Punjab, she suggested the officers work endlessly towards putting an end to the widespread drug racquet that has been underway in the state for decades now.
