Female-centric movies in Bollywood have been doing extremely well. Kangana Ranaut-starrer, Manikarnika, earned Rs 42 crore in the opening weekend. Isn’t this amazing that female protagonists today are literally carrying entire movies on their shoulders?  They are creating a path of their own and also leading the way.

Here are some women-led movies that fared extremely well at the box office:

• Secret Superstar

Zaira Wasim, who starred in Secret Superstar, impressed the audience with her performance. She earned appreciation and love from people for her phenomenal acting. The film collected Rs 62.6 crore in India and over Rs 800 crore in China. Isn’t this amazing?

• Raazi

This movie is all about Alia Bhatt’s performance. Many people have a mindset that women are frail, but this movie is an eye-opener as to what women can do if they set their heart on something. Alia left her indelible mark on the hearts of many people with her performance of an Indian spy in Pakistan. The movie collected Rs 195.75 crore at the box office worldwide.

• Pink

A movie with strong female protagonists, helmed by Taapsee Pannu, highlighted the idea of women's empowerment in India, what consent is and that "No means No". It fought against the odds such as muscle and money power coming in their way. This movie, also starring Amitabh Bachchan, collected Rs 107.32 crore at the box office.

Sonam Kapoor-starrer Neerja is based on the real life story of braveheart airhostess Neerja Bhanot who died while trying to save fliers from hijackers. The movie earned rave reviews both from critics as well as the audience. It collected Rs 127 crore worldwide.

• Veere Di Wedding

This multi-starrer breaks the stereotypes that revolve around a woman’s character. It cherishes Girl-friendship and their bonding. This movie earned Rs 138.8 crore at the box office worldwide.

• Mom

Sridevi has always been a delight to watch. This movie was a sleeper hit. It encapsulates the sight of a mother’s weeping heart and her vow to take revenge. It earned Rs 48 crore at the box office.

• Tumhari Sulu

Vidya Balan-starrer Tumhari Sulu opened to rave reviews after its release. Vidya plays Sulochana, who is fondly known as Sulu. The story revolves around Sulu, who finds herself in an unexpected job of an RJ, anchoring a late-night show. This movie attracted a sizable crowd to the theatres and earned Rs 50.84 crore.
