Lakhimpur Kheri Case: The National Commission for Women (NCW) asked the Uttar Pradesh police to urgently take action against two men accused of misbehaving with a woman by pulling her sari at the Lakhimpur Kheri polling site.
The video of the incident had gone viral on the internet and sparked outrage on social media. The NCW in its letter stated that the chairperson Rekha Sharma wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh asking for strict action against the men seen manhandling the woman. The woman in the video had gone to the polling site as a proposer for a Samajwadi Party candidate.
The commission in its letter stated, "National Commission for Women on July 8th had taken suo motu cognisance of an incident wherein a woman was allegedly attacked and misbehaved with and her sari was pulled in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh." The woman's panel's action comes after it was tagged in the video in question on social media.
Chairperson Sharma asked the Director-General of Uttar Pradesh Police to take action against the men involved. The voting for block panchayat elections took place on Saturday for 476 posts in Uttar Pradesh. The viral video was one of the incidents of violence. These cases have brought criticism from the opposition party towards the BJP government in the state. Congress party has also demanded an apology from the ruling party.

As per a report of Friday, six police officers were suspended in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri case. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath has reportedly asked for more vigilance and sensitivity from the police officers. The two men accused in the case have also been arrested and they are going to be presented in court, as per police.
