Khatun is thrilled to have a prosthetic arm, though she is still getting used to it. The Times of India quoted her as saying that the prosthetic hand is heavy and she still feels a little uncomfortable, but that she was confident about returning to hospital duty.

She has been learning how to use her prosthetic arm from a senior consultant prosthetist and orthotist Munmun Binte Sattar, who claims that she is already able to pick up tiny objects and hold a pen. She will progressively be able to open doors and handle a bag or pair of glasses in her hand. According to Sattar, she has already begun using her prosthetic arm to write.

A four-person state women's commission team led by Leena Gangopadhyay spoke with Khatun when she was receiving treatment at Durgapur, and she assured them that she would not give up. Khatun had expressed her desire for the Bengali government and chief minister Mamata Banerjee to take her situation into consideration and offer her employment.

To prevent his wife, a licensed nurse, from obtaining a position with the government, the husband executed the horrific deed. The police learned throughout the investigation that Mohammad feared that Khatun would leave him if she started working at the government hospital. Just four days later, he was taken into custody in Salar.
