A 59-year-old woman said her neck looked like a “lizard” after a botched cosmetic surgery. She underwent a procedure to fix her double chin and was left in agony with scarring on her chest and neck.
Jayne Bowman from the United Kingdom underwent a nonsurgical skin-tightening treatment called fibroblast plasma. Bowman underwent cosmetic surgery after she lost weight and had excessive skin on her chin. She went to Facebook for recommendations and a beautician responded and suggested fibroblast therapy. After checking out the reviews, Bowman decided to undergo the procedure.
During fibroblast therapy, a device uses a high-frequency electric current to encourage skin regeneration.

Bowman paid 48,000 rupees (500 British Pounds) for a fibroblast therapy treatment to tighten the skin on her neck. She spoke to Daily Mail and said, “It was so painful – it burned like hell. I told the therapist I was in agony but she didn’t seem bothered.”
Weeks following the cosmetic surgery, Bowman noted there was no change apart from scarring on her chest and neck. She said, “All I was left with was unsightly red dots all over my neck.” Bowman added, “I looked like a lizard.”
Bowman said, “I wish I still had my saggy neck – it was better than what I have been left with.” She said the botched cosmetic procedure left her with scars on her chest and neck. Bowman added that she avoids leaving her house and wears a scarf when she does.
She took to leaving a critical review on Facebook and was contacted by the police for “harassing the beautician”. Bowman said that she received messages from people saying that they went through the same thing.
Bowman decided to launch a petition calling for stricter regulations in the beauty industry. She described her experience as “a living nightmare” and said she wants justice for being “butchered at the beauticians.”
A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said, “Patient safety must always come first, which is why we are considering whether there needs to be more clarity around how treatments are classified and stronger, more robust safeguards for the regulation of providers.”
