A 19-year-old woman was knocked unconscious while running down a hill to chase a cheese wheel weighing 3 kilograms. Despite falling down and being knocked out while running down the steep hill, the woman Delaney Irving still managed to win.

The Cooper's Hill Cheese Rolling and Wake is an annual event. Participants run down a 180-metre-long hill chasing a wheel of cheese. The competitors race down the steep hill after a wheel of Double Gloucester cheese. The first person to reach the finish line at the bottom of the hill wins the race and is given the cheese as a reward.

The cheese rolling race often features participants who travel from all over the world to win the cheese. This year, the annual event took place on May 29, 2023, and Delaney Irving, the winner of the women's race hails from Canada.

The 19-year-old Canadian was chasing after the cheese wheel down the hill when she suffered a hard fall. She only realised that she won the race when she woke up in the medical tent.

In an interview, Irving could be seen proudly holding the cheese she had won. Irving revealed that she remembered hitting her head, she remembered feeling pain, and then waking up in the medical tent as the winner.

She confirmed that she would be heading to the hospital as a precaution and quipped that her prize cheese would serve as a great snack.

Irving, a winner among hundreds who took part told the BBC that the race was "good" now that she remembered it.

The winner of the first race, 28-year-old Matt Crolla from Manchester was asked how he prepared for the event. He responded that he didn't believe people could train for the cheese rolling race, as "it's just being an idiot". Crolla also mentioned that he was happy that he was conscious and did not receive serious injuries.

The famous event went ahead despite concerns for safety. South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust confirmed that one participant was taken to the hospital with injuries.
