Flowers can apparently be worth millions of dollars. In China, a woman mistakenly walked away with a flower that she had not paid for. The plant that she took instead was an orchid worth 20 million yuan or $3 million. She had switched her plant with the orchid, assuming that they were priced the same.
Of course, when the owners of the nursery noticed that the orchid was missing, they panicked, and immediately called the police.
Apparently, the particular orchid was very rare and had taken eight years to cultivate, says the South China Morning Post. It was a parent plant, from which other plants could be propagated. The owners of the nursery had orders for the flower type from all over China, and could not fulfil the order without this particular prototype.
Luckily, the police traced the woman who gave back the orchid. She was surprised that it cost so much and that she had caused so much panic amongst the owners. Fortunately, the owners didn’t press charges. Who knew that a flower could create so much commotion!
Here are some of the world's rarest flowers:
The Corpse flower - This can only be found in the rainfalls of Indonesia. It has no roots, no leaves and no stem. It is the most endangered flower in the world, and only blooms once a decade. It can reach up to 10 feet in height.
The Kadupul flower - It grows in Sri Lanka, India, Japan and China. It only opens up at night, and closes in the morning.
Chocolate cosmo - This flower grows in Mexico. However, it no longer grows in the wild. It has to be propagated via tissue culture.
The Juliet rose- This rose is very rare to find. One cultivator even sold his plant for $15.8 million after cultivating it for 15 years!
