Woman Swims A Distance Of 295 Feet Under Ice, Sets New Guinness World Record

Amber Fillary, a swimmer from South Africa, has set a new Guinness World Record by swimming a distance of 295 feet and three inches under ice.

Woman swims under ice : Amber Fillary, a swimmer from South Africa, has set a new Guinness World Record by swimming a distance of 295 feet and three inches under ice. Interestingly, this is her second Guinness World Record. Two years ago, she made the same record in Oppsjo, Norway. There, she swam a distance of 229 feet and 7.9 inches.

Fillary also holds the Guinness World Record for the longest underwater walk with one breath. She achieved it in Dahab, Egypt with a 359-foot 6-inch stroll. But what makes her current record unique is the fact that it was done without fins or a diving suit.

Amber Fillary, a swimmer from South Africa, has set a new Guinness World Record by swimming a distance of 295 feet and three inches under ice.

She took to Instagram to write about her achievement. She wrote, "The end of my record swim under ice…also front-page SA newspaper. Please if you able make a donation to my crowdfunding as I funded it all myself and still I am far from what it cost me!!! Big thanks to everyone that has contributed so far and supported me. My amazing team in Norway that helped me I could not have done it without you guys.”

She is also a motivational speaker. According to a report, she lost her late husband, Leonard, due to excessive drinking and later kidney failure.

More about her

She used to work as a lifeguard at a double Olympics-sized outdoor pool in London a decade ago. That's when her love of cold water and freediving started. According to a report, she has struggled with anorexia, bulimia and depression. She even tried to commit suicide on several occasions but she met some wonderful people in her life who motivated her to reach her goal. She started swimming to keep all the negative thoughts at bay. Therefore, she wants to spread an important message.  “Don’t let depression or addiction get in the way of your life’s goals."
