Woman sues colleague for hugging in China as the hug was allegedly so tight that it broke three of her ribs and she is seeking compensation for causing her financial trouble because of the harm he caused. The unusual incident happened in May 2021 and the case was filed in Yunxi court, as per reports.
While hugging is beneficial for comforting people and is claimed to reduce blood pressure and heart rate, a hug from a colleague sent a Chinese woman to the emergency room. In a case filed in Yunxi court, a county in the northwest area of China's Hubei province, a woman from Hunan, Yueyang, sought compensation from her colleague as she claimed that he broke her three ribs while hugging her too hard. When the court did not find any evidence to prove that the injury was caused by any other physical activity, it ordered the colleague to pay her a compensation of the loss his actions caused.
Chinese Woman Sues Colleague For Hugging
The woman claimed in the lawsuit that the incident happened in May 2021 when she was talking to another co-worker. The alleged male co-worker approached her and gave her a tight hug. The hug was so tight that the woman ended up screaming in pain and allegedly had a discomfort in her chest for the entire day and even after going back home from work. Considering it to be a temporary curable pain, the woman applied some oil and went to sleep instead of going to the hospital.
However, instead of going away, the pain in her chest intensified and after five days after the incident, she went to the hospital and the X-Ray revealed that she had broken one left and two right ribs. The injury forced her to take a leave from work and pay the hospital and nursing expenses when she did not have an income. The woman also claims that while she was on leave and recovering, she met the same colleague and told him about the incident. She tried to negotiate with him and come to a settlement but he said that his hug was friendly.
The woman then filed a lawsuit and the court, after investigating the matter, asked the colleague to pay her 10,000 Yuan( Rs 1.16 lakh) to her as compensation.
