Marrying Against Family Wishes Gets Woman Killed: A woman was allegedly stabbed to death by the members of her family for marrying against their wishes in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun, the police said on Thursday. She was 21 years old.
The deceased woman has been identified as Archana who used to live in Badaun's Palia Gujar area under the jurisdiction of Dataganj police station. She had gone missing on June 28 when she reportedly got married to her distant uncle named Devendra, a resident of Bareilly.
Archana's family members had filed a complaint with police accusing Devendra and his three brothers of kidnapping. The three men were then booked by the police under section 366 of the Indian penal code, an official stated.
Senior police official Sankalp Sharma said that Archana was tagging along with her husband Devendra on Wednesday night to the police station when she was allegedly stabbed to death by her family members. The husband then filed a complaint with the police according to which the deceased woman was killed by her three brothers and one other person.
Sharma confirmed that there has been no arrest in the case yet and that the efforts are on to do that. The incident reportedly unfolded barely 100 metres from the police station. A case has been registered against Archana's family members in response to the complaint lodged by her husband.
This report comes after many such harrowing cases of family members killing women when they simply went against their wishes. Earlier this month, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her grandfather and her uncle for defying against their 'no jeans' diktat. The minor girl's dead body was found hanging from a bridge in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district.
This reportedly happened because the accused person failed to dispose of her body. The deceased woman's grandfather was arrested by the police but her uncle was still absconding.
