Myanmar anti-coup protest: A video released from the protest site in Myanmar reveals a 20-year-old woman being shot in the head by the police.
As the video shows her being shot in the head, she is reportedly suffering from severe brain damage. The video was shot on Tuesday at a protest site in Myanmar's capital Naypyidaw. The said woman was wearing a red colour shirt and a bike helmet.
The protestors were seen throwing stones at the police while the police sprayed water on the protesters. Police then attacked the woman in red and shooting at her. She then fell on the ground. Her name was revealed as Mya Thwe Thwe Khine.
A medical professional told the Human Rights Watch that Mya due to a bullet lodged in her head has lost major brain function.
Human Rights Watch on Myanmar Anti-Coup Protest
A Human Rights Watch researcher Richard Weir said that Myanmar police's action on an unarmed female protestor who had her back turned is "unconscionable" and "unlawful". He said, “The police need to stop responding to peaceful protests by firing off guns and immediately investigate alleged wrongful use of force. Myanmar’s military junta should rescind its draconian orders on protests and end its crackdown.”
Many other protestors suffered injuries at the hands of police. Myanmar anti-coup protests broke out in Myanmar after the country's military arrested the ruling party leaders along with the leader of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi. Read more about it here.
