While self-styled Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh continued to remain evasive, Amritpal Singh and Papalpreet Singh were spotted in Delhi. Reportedly, a second-year student of the Delhi University had provided shelter to the men at her rented apartment in Lakshmi Nagar, East Delhi. This is the third woman who has provided shelter to the Waris de Punjab chief and his aide.
The police are now questioning the woman, who is said to be from an area near Papalpreet's village. They had met during a farmer's protest in Delhi, and Papalpreet Singh had visited her house on two occasions earlier.
Woman Sheltering Amritpal Singh Arrested
The woman informed the police that on March 20, Papalpreet and another man in disguise had come to her house. She claimed to have never met Amritpal Singh before. Since Papalpreet Singh requested that she provide them shelter for a night, she has offered them food and a place to sleep for the night. Both men had left her house after lunch on March 21. The Punjab police are questioning the woman before taking legal action against her.
On Sunday, the Punjab Police arrested a woman on Sunday for allegedly providing shelter to Amritpal Singh and Papalpreet Singh. The woman who was arrested was identified as 60-year-old Balbir Kaur of Patiala. Amritpal Singh and Papalpreet Singh had stayed at her house for a few hours during the day on March 19 before heading towards Shahabad. The woman had also given her scooter to them.
On Saturday, CCTV footage of Amritpal Singh speaking on the phone emerged in Patiala. He was dressed in a jacket and trousers. He was also holding a bag and hiding his face with a white cloth while Papalpreet stood beside him.
A second piece of footage showed the Waris Punjab De chief wearing a sunglass and walking on the same street while speaking on the phone. According to police sources, Balbir Kaur has been named an accused in the first FIR, which was registered against Amritpal Singh and three others in Mehantpur, Jalandhar. The first FIR was registered under Indian Penal Code sections 279 (rash or negligent driving) and 188 (disobedience to the order of a public servant) and the Arms Act.
Balbir Kaur is the second woman to be arrested for providing shelter for Amritpal Singh. Earlier, the police had arrested Baljit Kaur of Shahabad for giving shelter to Amritpal Singh and Papalpreet Singh.
Baljit Kaur, a friend of Papalpreet Singh, was arrested on March 23. The 28-year-old woman was arrested by the Punjab police and produced in the Nakodar Court on Friday. She was remanded for three days by the police. She had provided shelter to both Amritpal Singh and Papalpreet Singh for a night's stay at Shahabad. The Haryana Police handed over Baljit Kaur to the Punjab police. She has been arrested under IPC sections 279 and 188 and Sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act.
In an exclusive with India Today, Baljit Kaur said that she didn’t know who Amritpal Singh was but knew Papalpreet Singh through Instagram. She claimed thatPapalpreet Singh brought Amritpal Singh and she only realised who he was when he was having dinner
Amritpal Singh had also used her phone to search for something. She said that it was difficult to identify him initially because he was wearing a turban, glasses, and a mask. Balji Kaur said that Amritpal Singh had given her a scooter and asked her to drop it off at a location in Patiala. However, he did not inform her where they were headed.
Baljit Kaur is an MBA degree holder who lives with her father and brother in Kurukshetra’s Shahabad town. Her brother works at the SDM office, and her father owns a milk business.
A massive manhunt has been going on to nab the Waris Punjab De Chief, Amritpal Singh.
