A 20-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 40-year-old man in the ladies compartment of a moving Mumbai local train when she was travelling alone on Wednesday morning.
The man was hunted down and arrested by police personnel within 8 hours.
Woman Sexually Assaulted On Mumbai Local Train:
The girl, a resident of Girgaon in Mumbai was travelling alone from CSTM station to Belapur in Navi Mumbai to appear for an exam. The girl boarded the Trans Harbour train early in the morning and as soon as the train started running, a man hopped into the ladies' compartment.
The woman was alone in an empty ladies' compartment when a man allegedly started sexually assaulting the girl between CSTM station to Masjid station around 7:26 am. As soon as the woman raised the alarm the man ran out of the train to the Masjid station.
The woman approached Government Railway Police (GRP) and lodged her complaint after which an FIR was registered against the assaulter who was unidentified.
The Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), crime branch, and Mumbai police launched a manhunt against the assaulter and nabbed him down around 4 pm near Masjid station.
The team of police personnel checked CCTV footage inside and outside the Masjid stations and the man could be identified and hunted down within hours of the incident.
The accused is identified as a 40-year-old daily-wage labourer and is charged with different sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including rape, and a case has been filed against him.
Police officials informed that further investigations are underway and the girl is safe and sound.
