A woman died after a man who was infatuated by her, burned her alive after she rejected his love proposal. The incident took place in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The man was agitated over the woman's rejection and set the woman on fire after pouring petrol on her. She died on the spot. The woman had held on to the man, who also got injured and later died in the hospital.
The woman who died was a nurse by profession and worked at a coronavirus care centre in Vijayawada.
According to the Government, the man identified is called Nagabhushanam. He is believed to have come prepared with petrol in bottle to attack her when she was returning from her work around 9:30 in the evening. After an altercation, he allegedly poured petrol on her and lit her up.
Locals rushed to the spot but woman died due to severe burns. Nagabhushanam, who was also injured, was first rushed to Vijayawada government hospital and later to Guntur general hospital, where he died early morning on 13th October. The police said," Nagabhushana and the woman were in contact for more than three years. She later distanced herself from him."
On October 5, the woman had lodged a complaint with Government police that he was harassing her despite conveying her decision.
Assistant commissioner of police M Ramesh, who inspected the spot, said a case of murder was booked initially but was later altered to death under suspicious circumstances, after Nagabhushanam also succumbed.
