Woman Walks Home After Recovering From COVID-19, Finds Family Already Had Her Funeral

According to reports, the family cremated someone else by mistake. The woman Girijamma was reportedly admitted to a hospital in Vijayawada on May 12. When her husband Gaddayya went to the hospital to check on Girijamma on May 15, he did not find her on her bed.

Woman Returns Home After her funeral: A bizarre case of confusion took place in Jaggaiapet town of Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district when a 75-year-old woman returned home on Wednesday after recovering from COVID-19 to find that her family had performed her last rites.

According to reports, the family cremated someone else by mistake. The woman Girijamma was reportedly admitted to a hospital in Vijayawada on May 12. When her husband Gaddayya went to the hospital to check on Girijamma on May 15, he did not find her on her bed. After asking around in the hospital, he looked for her in different wards but she couldn't be found, according to reports.

That is when the hospital staff told Gaddayya to check in the mortuary. In there, Gaddayya saw a woman's body that resembled his wife and informed the staff. The hospital reportedly released the body and issued a death certificate in Girijamma's name. Her family then took the body home and cremated it along with her son Ramesh's body who had died of COVID-19 on May 23. The unidentified body and Ramesh were cremated on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Girijamma had recovered from the virus in the hospital and was wondering why her family members had not come to take her home, according to reports. She then came home by herself on Wednesday. Looking Girijamma shocked her family members along with her husband Gaddayya. She was then told about her son's death. The couple is now together to grieve for their son Ramesh.

According to official records, Andhra Pradesh recorded 12,768 fresh cases of coronavirus, 15,612 recoveries and 98 deaths as of  Wednesday night. The health bulletin said that the total number of recoveries so far in the state is 15.62 lakh, over 11,132 people have died and the total number of positive cases is 17.17 lakh with 1.43 lakh active cases.
