The patriarchal society lays down many responsibilities on a woman once she gets married. However, a recent post is going viral on the internet as it contained some oppressing and ridiculous conditions or rules for the wife to be allowed to live in her husband's house.
We often see new brides being given a set of rules to follow post their wedding as a part of the patriarchal norms. From waking up early to cooking for the family, the life of women changes entirely after the wedding while men continue to perform their daily activities in the way they did before the wedding. While some of these rules are clearly stated and many others are often unsaid necessities, sometimes these rules are so weird and oppressing that they make us question how we call ourselves humans of the 21st century. A recent viral post on Twitter is an example.

Woman Receives List Of Rules From In-Laws
The post was shared by @ambmarxperi on Twitter who shared a list of 14 rules that had to be followed by a woman if she wanted to live in her in-law's house with her husband. The list that was forwarded by the advocate of the husband's side was attached with the caption, "These are conditions from the husband's side to the wife who left the matrimonial house. If she obeys these conditions, they are ready to let her live with the boy."
The list was seemingly shared after a dispute between the two sides and consisted of conditions to allow the woman inside the house of her in-laws. The original list is in Tamil and contains conditions like the wife will not be given main gate keys, start her day at 8 am, will do all housework including flour milling, family members of the girl will not visit the house, if she or her child is unwell she should not tell the husband and many other unreasonable conditions.
The post is facing immense backlash on the misogynist and patriarchal conditions imposed on the wife who has left her parent's house and dreams of living a happy life with her husband. Such incidents show how we still have a long way to when it comes to equality. This was a written list and hence came into the limelight, however, there are many incidents of subtle rules that married women are told to follow around the world that could not even be proved. The oppression remains similar but not always does come in the eyes of society to be criticised.
One thing that comes to our mind is if the husband is obligated to follow such rules? Is he asked to wake up early, clean the house, make tea and meals, take permission to go out and is not allowed to meet his family? Why are such rules only for women when men are also getting married and are supposed to share responsibility? Such incidents are an example that we need to eradicate differences in order to call ourselves civilised and progressive.
