Woman Raped In Saki Naka Dies: CCTV Footage Shows Assault
The woman, now deceased, was homeless, according to Indian Express. A watchman on Khairani road who claimed to have witnessed her assault was the one who dialled the police on Friday morning. CCTV footage was scoured and Chouhan was arrested from Kurla soon after police received information of the alleged rape and assault.
He was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including attempt to murder. Read the charges here. The woman's statement could not be recorded but an FIR in the case has been filed per the watchman's statement, reports say.
Reports suggest CCTV footage obtained by police investigating the case shows Chouhan stabbing the woman multiple times with a rod and raping her, after which he placed her inside the tempo and fled. Doctors at Rajawadi Hospital where the woman was being treated raised concerns over her condition when she was brought in.
The woman's mother said she was married and had two children. Prior to the assault, she had left home following arguments.
