Woman Paralysed By Boyfriend's Assault
A man named Amey Darekar was arrested by Dahisar police on charges of attempt to murder after a complaint was filed against him for allegedly engaging in an act of violence against his 24-year-old girlfriend.
The woman, who works in a BPO is a resident of Malad. On Saturday, she visited a common friend's house in Dahisar with Darekar. The incident occurred on the 13th-floor terrace of the building when the couple got into an argument in an intoxicated state and the woman fell from the water tank during the fight after he assaulted her.
The police official told a news agency that the preliminary investigation post-Darekar's arrest revealed that the couple was in an intoxicated state and was fighting over an issue, and rather than taking his girlfriend to the hospital, he dropped her in that injured state at her home in Malad without informing anyone. The police said that the man took his mother's help for the same.
The woman's father informed the officials that his daughter had not returned home on Saturday after work and her cell phone was switched off when they tried calling her. He shared with the police that he along with his wife were on a morning walk on Sunday and only saw their daughter lying unconscious in her bedroom at 8 am with severe injuries all over her body. Their house help informed them that Darekar and his mother dropped off the injured woman.
The woman was taken to the Kokilaben Hospital hospital where she underwent spinal surgery spanning six hours and got fourteen screw implants. She is currently under critical care and will be undergoing head surgery too. Her paralysis presently waist down may leave her without movement until she recovers.
The woman's father told the police that this wasn't the first time Darekar was violent towards her. Her father revealed that in September, Darekar assaulted his daughter during an argument in an autorickshaw when they were heading towards her home. The father said that Darekar behaved so violently that he even assaulted the autorickshaw driver when the latter tried to calm him down while he was hitting the woman.
Darekar will face jail on grounds of an attempt to murder if charges are proven in court against him.
