A few purported skeletal remains of the murder victim Sheena Bora have been retracted after they allegedly disappeared from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) storeroom for a few weeks. The prosecution informed the trial court in New Delhi that the remains were located at the CBI's office, the Press Trust of India reported. Sheena Bora, 25, was allegedly murdered in 2012 by her mother Indrani Mukerjea and others. The trial for the case began on July 10, 2024.
Forensic Expert Now Testifying As Witness
According to reports, the trial court received an email asserting that Sheena's bones had not been lost but were in the possession of a forensic expert, Dr Zeba Khan, who had examined the skeleton and was now testifying as a witness in the case. The email also alleged that the forensic expert had suddenly acquired wealth and brought properties abroad.
Trial court judge, S P Naik Nimbalkar, informed defence lawyers in the court that the email and a hard copy of the letter were sent by someone claiming to be Khan's brother. The mail alleged that Khan was in cahoots with the accused, and this could be behind the evidence suddenly vanishing. The defence lawyers requested an investigation into the allegation. The trial court judge has asked the CBI for a response.
Sheena Bora Case: What You Should Know
Mukerjea, the former wife of media tycoon Peter Mukerjea, is accused in the alleged murder case of her daughter Sheena Bora, who died at the age of 25 in 2012, her death was discovered only three years later when the family driver, Shyamvar Rai, was apprehended by the police in another case of arms possession. Rai claimed that he, along with his employer Mukerjea and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna were responsible for the death of Bora and disposal of her body.
Mukerjea made explosive allegations of her daughter being alive, which the CBI claimed were only a way to prolong the case proceedings. In April 2024, the prosecution informed the court that Sheena Bora's remains were untraceable. However, on July 10, prosecutor C J Nandode said, "But meanwhile, again after going through the office `malkhana' (store).... the articles i.e. the bones are (found to be) lying in the malkhana."
Mukerjea was the founder of the recruitment company INX Services Private based in Kolkata and had a daughter Sheena and a son Mikhail with her first partner, Siddhartha Das. Bora's death case had taken a major turn, as details were made public in 2015 when it was revealed she was Mukerjea's daughter, not sister as she had been introduced in Mumbai social circles by Mukerjea.
