In a shocking incident, a 45-year-old woman was brutally beaten to death in Khagaria district, Bihar, over a land dispute. The police said that the woman’s body was found in a mutilated state, with her eyes gouged out of the sockets, her tongue chopped, and her private parts injured.
The incident took place on Saturday evening when the woman, Sulekha Devi, went to her field in Mehandipur village. She was attacked by four bike-borne men when she was working in her field.
Woman Murdered Over Land Dispute
The police said that according to an eyewitness, She was brutally thrashed; her eyes were gouged out of the socket with a knife; her tongue was chopped off; and her private parts were mutilated.
The woman died on the spot, and the police have registered a case against five people involved in the heinous crime under various sections of the Indian penal code, including Section 302 (murder). The accused have been absconding since the crime was reported, and the police are conducting an investigation to nab them.
According to a report by the Hindustan Times, Sulekha Devi’s family has identified five of their neighbours as the accused: Mahendra Singh, Rajdev Singh, Rulo Singh, Fulungi Singh, and Shyam Kumar Singh.
The police stated that Sulekha Devi’s family was involved in a long-standing dispute with five of their neighbours. Although the dispute was settled, nine years ago Sulekha Devi’s husband and brother-in-law were murdered for the same issue.
The accused who were involved in that murder are currently out on bail, according to officials.
According to a Hindustan Times report, Station House Officer (SHO) Amlesh Kumar said that the brutality of the murder revealed the deep-seated animosity the accused had towards the woman.
The incident led to a spark of outrage in the village. Locals staged a protest, blocking National Highway 31. They refused to cremate Sulekha Devi’s body until the accused were arrested by the police. However, after receiving assurance from the cops that swift and strict action would be taken against the accused, the villagers ended their protest.
