A woman has alleged in a Facebook post that an e-rickshaw driver outside New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) harassed and verbally abused her when she refused to board his rickshaw. She claimed that the drunk driver said he would charge her Rs 200 for going to Paharganj, which is under 4 km radius of NDLS.

It happened around 6.30 pm when the woman came out of gate no. 1 of New Delhi Metro Station. When she was walking down the road, the driver identified as Khursheed allegedly ran after her and grabbed her hand. “He was drunk and abused me. He then said ‘ab to tu mere saath hi chalegi’ and tried to drag her to the vehicle,” the woman said in her complaint. “I turned around and smashed my water bottle against his face and then dragged him to the police post nearby, but there were no policemen there,” she added.

She also said that she did not get any police help even after calling the PCR several times. She took charge of the situation and forced open the police kiosk and locked the driver inside it.

“I got a call from a policeman after some time and even he repeated that someone would come within five minutes. No one arrived even after half an hour,” said the woman.

The driver was constantly asking her to free him. She waited for 45 minutes. When no cops came, she thrashed the driver with a stick until he started to bleed.

“We requested the woman to record her statement. We checked the number on which she had called for help and found that the policemen on duty were busy with other work. They have been suspended for not performing their duty," - DCP Parvez Ahmed

“I didn’t want to stop, but after sometime the human inside couldn’t hurt him any longer. I threw the stick and walked away,” she said in her social media post.

She tagged Delhi Police in the post following which DCP (PRO) Madhur Verma alerted his counterpart, DCP (railways) Parvez Ahmed.

“We requested the woman to record her statement. We checked the number on which she had called for help and found that the policemen on duty were busy with other work. They have been suspended for not performing their duty and an inquiry has been initiated against them,” said DCP Ahmed.

After Delhi Police received information about the case, it has suspended two policemen, ASI Shibu and head constable Chander Bhan. They have also registered a case against Khursheed for outraging a woman's modesty.
