Haldwani Police, Uttarakhand, have filed charges against five individuals in connection with the death of a businessman. His body was reportedly discovered inside a car with snake bite marks. A snake charmer has been arrested, while the businessman's girlfriend, Mahi Arya, and three others are still being sought by the police. The authorities claim that Mahi Arya conspired with her friends to hire a snake charmer to carry out the murder of her boyfriend, Ankit Chauhan.
Arya, her friend Deep Kandpal, and her two households are currently being sought by the authorities. The lifeless body of Chauhan, aged 30, was found inside his car with the engine still running. The vehicle had been parked alongside the road near the Teenpani area, as confirmed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nainital, Pankaj Bhatt.
The police took custody of Ankit Chauhan's body on July 15 and sent it for a postmortem examination, which revealed that he had died from snake venom, the SSP said as quoted by the Hindustan Times.
Woman Kills Boyfriend Using Cobra
Initially, it was believed that Chauhan's death was accidental. However, the police asserted that their investigation revealed a shocking revelation. Arya and her accomplices allegedly deliberately released a cobra that caused Chauhan's demise. The postmortem report corroborated this information, stating that the incident occurred on July 14 when Chauhan visited Arya's residence.
During their investigative process, the police scrutinised Chauhan's call records, leading them to discover information about Arya. Further investigation led the police to a snake charmer named Ramesh Nath based in Uttar Pradesh. After placing his number under surveillance, he was arrested on Monday, said the SSP.
According to the autopsy report cited by Amar Ujala, Chauhan suffered two venomous snake bites on his leg. Following this revelation, four police teams were assembled, including one dedicated to surveillance. Their investigation revealed that Arya had been in communication with both the snake charmer and Deep Kandpal.
The police complaint was filed by Chauhan's sister, Isha, who held Arya and Deep Kandpal responsible for her brother's death. In response to the complaint, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against them under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code at the Haldwani police station, as reported by the Hindustan Times.
During the police questioning, the snake charmer claimed that Chauhan was a heavy drinker and had been abusive towards Arya, which purportedly led her to conspire and carry out this extreme act.
