A woman kidnapped at birth will be walked down the aisle with her ‘fake’ father and birth father. The woman, Miche Zephany, born Zephany Nurse was kidnapped from her biological parents in Cape Town, South Africa when she was a few days old.
Miche Zephany spent 17 years of her life believing that Michael was her biological father. Now, Zephany will be walked down the aisle by her biological father Morne and Michael. Zephany was taken by Lavona Solomon as her biological mother Celeste slept next to her. Solomon was reportedly dressed up as a nurse when she abducted Zephany. She had faked her pregnancy after a miscarriage and kidnapped the newborn Zephany.
Woman Kidnapped At Birth
The 25-year-old Zephany said she grew up unaware of who her biological parents were. When she turned 17, a new student joined the same school. The new student was her biological younger sister, Cassidy. The two shared an uncanny resemblance to each other and Zephany said, “I met Cassidy at school. When I saw her face we had this sensation, this connection. We immediately clicked and we immediately became friends.”
Cassidy was raised in a household that was dominated by the search for the kidnapped newborn. She became suspicious that Zephany could be her missing older sister and informed her father. Cassidy told Zephany that she might be her kidnapped older sister. Zephany initially did not believe Cassidy, she said “it didn’t feel real, like some Hollywood movie”.
Zephany’s birth father Morne contacted the local police and they discovered that Zephany’s birth was registered when she was six years old, close to 50 kilometres away from Cape Town. The police got Zephany’s permission to take her DNA and the results confirmed that she was the kidnapped child.
Solomon was arrested and in 2016, she was sentenced to 10 years for kidnapping, fraud, and violating the Children’s Act. Her husband Michael insisted that he was unaware that Zephany had not his biological child and that she was kidnapped.
Miche Zephany got engaged to her boyfriend Justin Sheldon in March and said she wanted “both my dads to walk me down the aisle”. The documentary Girl, Taken about Zephany's life was released on July 25 on the streaming channel Paramount+.
