Woman Gives Birth On Plane, Surprisingly Was Unaware Of Her Pregnancy

It may sound bizarre a woman deliver a child without knowing about her pregnancy but this has actually happened. A woman passenger gave birth mid-flight last week in the bathroom after having a stomach ache.

The woman is identified as Tamara, she was on a KLM Royal Dutch flight from Guyaquil, Ecuador to Amsterdam. The co-passengers were surprised by the unexpected childbirth. Tamara was flying from Ecuador to Spain, with a stop at Schipol Airport outside Amsterdam. 

The Spaarne Gasthuis Haarlem Zuid hospital's spokesperson said in a report to NL Times, "A few hours before landing in the Netherlands, her stomach hurt and she decided to go to the toilet. To her great surprise, after two contractions, she suddenly had a baby in her hands. Tamara had no idea she was pregnant and was quite taken aback by the event."

The two doctors and a nurse from Austria were also flying on the plane and they assisted the new mother in the delivery as per a New York Post report. The airline spokesperson in the report highlighted that Tamara named the baby after one of the helpful passengers named Maximiliano. Maximiliano took care of her and ensured she had a safe delivery. 

Further KLM airline added, "Both the mother Tamara and baby Maximiliano are healthy and upon stopping at Schiphol, the mother and newborn boy will be admitted to Spaarne Gasthuis Hospital." 

"The team in the birthing department did everything possible to ensure that both received proper care and were on their way for the necessary paperwork for Maximiliano", they added. 

This is not the first event, wherein the woman was unaware of the pregnancy. Earlier, a couple in the United States found out they were expecting a baby, and just 48 hours later gave birth to their first child. For them, it was a shock of life. 

Also, in another incident in October, It was reported that a young mother similarly ended up giving birth mid-flight to her baby boy 36,000 feet in the air, and named the child 'sky'.
