Nagami said, “Thankfully, my husband did not suffer major injuries. But who knows what could happen when he goes on the same road tomorrow”.

She said that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had not attended to potholes on the busy road for two years.

Nagami spoke with Deccan Herald and said, “Tomorrow, I don’t want to wake up to the news of someone losing their life to the same pothole.” She mentioned that while she had a licence, she was scared to drive on the road filled with potholes.

She added that she hoped her action of filling up the pothole would encourage the authorities to do their duty. Her husband Narayanaswamy tried to help her fill the pothole but was unable to as his back hurt after the accident. She also said that if more people had joined her, she would have been able to fill more potholes.

Nagami pointed out that dug-up footpaths also served as another problem. She asked, “Two footpaths near my house are dug-up. Where do the government agencies expect us to walk?”

BBMP junior engineer (roads and infrastructure) Jayant Kumar said that the BBMP was aware of the pothole problems on the 18th Cross. Kumar added that the BBMP had received several complaints of across Malleswaram.
