In a puzzling and unexpected incident that occurred in August this year. A Brazilian woman, Fernanda Valoz Pinto, allegedly passed away after consuming a chocolate given to her as a gift by the palm reader. The demise happened mere hours after the palm reader predicted her death.
As reported by the New York Post, the unfortunate incident took place on August 3 when Pinto, aged 27, was strolling through the downtown area of Maceió, Brazil, which is known as a hub for fortune tellers.
While the deceased was walking through the city centre, she was approached by an elderly lady who requested to examine her palm. The elderly woman foretold that Pinto had only a few days left to live and then presented her with a chocolate as a present. Naturally, Pinto didn't think much of it.
Shortly after consuming the chocolate, Pinto began to feel extremely unwell, displaying symptoms that included vomiting, dizziness, and blurred vision, which she described to her family in text messages.
Detailed Messages
According to reports, she used text messages to communicate her condition to her family shortly after ingesting the confection. She wrote, "My heart is racing. I've vomited. But there's this taste in my mouth. So bitter. Terrible. My vision is unclear, and I feel incredibly weak."
She went on to say, "I leaned against the water tank. I almost collapsed. I felt like I was on the brink of a near-death experience. I can't explain why I'm feeling this way, sis. I've been feeling unwell all day."
Considering the patient's existing medical issues such as gastritis and an ulcer, the family initially did not harbour any suspicions but became concerned when Pinto referenced her interaction with the seemingly psychic woman.
"I felt unwell after accepting a chocolate in the city center and consuming it," the deceased had messaged prior to her passing.
Cause Of Death
Pinto's cause of death was not confirmed until two months later. The toxicology analysis conducted on samples taken during her autopsy showed elevated levels of pesticides, specifically Sulfotep and Terbufos, in her system. Investigations are ongoing to establish whether the chocolate was the origin of Pinto's poisoning.
These chemicals are commonly associated with cases of poisoning and intoxication in Brazil because of their ready availability, even though they are subject to regulation by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply.
Regrettably, the examination did not conclusively establish that the candy was the cause of Pinto's poisoning.
